A coaxial cable consists of two concentric conductors, which are seperated by a dielectric and by a screen. Fields of applocation for coaxial cables are video technology, electrical measurement as well as applications, where radio signals have to be transferred without loss.

The maximum length of a extension cable
is not simple to determine, because a lot of factors are decisive.
The input variable and the maximum frequencyto be transmitted have to be considered. How well a signal is transmitted, is specified via the attenuation. As orientation guide, we indicated the attenuation of the coaxial cable at a signal of 1GHz. Simply put: The lower this value, the higher the output of the line.

The RP-SMA-connector and de SMA-connector are identical on the outside. This likely leads to confusion. So take a closer look!
The inner conductor of the RP-SMA-plug is a metal tubule; in contrast, the RP-SMA-jack has a pen as inner conductor (see ill. left)

Cables and lines which are compliant to this norm, are made of non-halogen and flame-retardant sheath material. In case of fire, this guarantees a low smoke development and is therefore prescribed for permanent installations in indoor spaces and buildings.
